Why Is Sentry Important

In many strong and detailed writing pieces there is a sentry: someone or something that is protecting a person, thing, or idea. With every sentry there is also the valuable that they are protecting and the danger that causes them to protect it. Sentries are very important because they protect the things that are precious to us. Whether it’s a vault safeguarding jewelry and money or a police officer around our community, it still serves as protection. When most people hear the word valuable they think of physical objects that have value but it can really be anything if it’s precious to that person. A hair clip to one person could be worthless while to another it was passed down for generations and is of great value to the family. When Roberto needed a place to stay his cousins graciously took him into their home. They even gave him his own room to stay in. Roberto says “That night I layed in the bed my cousins had generously gave to me”. This shows how his cousins were unselfish enough to give up one of their beds for him to have a nice place to sleep. Additionally, when the police were questioning Roberto’s aunt she lied to cover for him. If she got caught doing this she could be arrested or even worse. “Sir I can assure you that there is only 4 of us living here,” she had said to the officer. This demonstrated how she cared enough about him to put her life on the line so he could be free. Lastly, Roberto’s aunt and uncle made sure he was well fed and cared for. Whether he liked the dish or not they always made extra for him. “We were having beef stew which I didn’t like but was happy to have anything at all” he thought to himself one night at dinner.
