Why Is Ronald Reagan Important To Me

Improved Essays
Ronald Reagan is by far my favorite president and I have read books by and about him for a long time. I'm very aware of his leadership and his advocacy for others and I admire that very much. I believe the inspiration of Ronald Reagan has impacted me, because I love helping others and making things positive for everyone around me. In my community and school, I've made a difference by volunteering my time to help others.
Volunteering at my city's animal shelter is probably one of the most rewarding experiences I've had. At Indianapolis Animal Care Services, people come in to surrender pets, adopt pets, and volunteer time to shelter pets. I have definitely gotten attached to my work at the shelter because I feel like I'm making so much of a difference.

Before I was in NHS, I tutored and volunteered anyways, so it was nothing new to me, but it's cool to track my hours to see how much time I really do put into my school and community. Tutoring through NHS has help connect me to more students in my school that need tutoring. I can recall the specific event that made me love tutoring and taught me the value of donating my time to help people. I was walking down the main hallway at the end of school, rushing to get out as was everyone else, and I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was a student I had been tutoring for about a month. He showed me a math test he just got back and he got a B, I was very happy for him, since before he had been failing the class. He began thanking me for all the help I gave him, and specifically for just sitting down with him and answering his questions, because it helped him understand. This was definitely a "feel-good" moment. I really believe that student made more of an impact on me than I made on him, and I know I will carry the value of community service with me to college.
I will continue throughout college and beyond to help all the people I can and advocate for those without a voice. High school has taught me a ton about leadership and community service and I hope to be able to leave a legacy for those I meet. I want to be able to inspire people like they have inspired me, and I will aim to do that through my

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

One heroic quality that he exemplified is perseverance. It must have been hard growing up with a dad who was an alcoholic and being raised only by his mother who even had to work sometimes. He also had to persevere when he lost in the election and when he was divorced but still had two children. Reagan also exemplified strong leadership as high school student council president, captain of the college swim team, college student body president, president of the Screen Actors’ Guild, and, most importantly, Governor of California and President of the United States. Two more qualities which the 40th President exemplified are humility and humor.…
