    1. Amber-Dawn Bear Robe reflects on how photography conducted by settlers and missionaries was historically used to “assimilate, objectify, and control,” and as such functioned as a “tool of colonial oppression.” Reflect on how photographic imagery can convey a political message (think about frame, arrangement, and use). An image may show bias and can affect perceptions of a person by using a certain pose and angle, color choices, and additional props. In the article Why Time's Trump Cover is a Subversive Work of Political Art, it tells the reader to look at the portrayal of Trump, and to notice how the colors appear slightly muted, which creates a vintage effect, which the author says can remind the reader of World War Two, segregation, and the Cold War. The color choices of Trump's picture remind the reader of tough times. Color choices can create a connection between a person and a memory, whether it be good or bad, resulting in an association of the person with good or bad feelings. Pose also affects how the reader sees a person.…

My “Where I’m From Poem” demonstrates who I am, and my identity. Each line of the poem reveals another aspect of my identity, and opens up to who I am even more. The whole poem is a metaphor of my identity, which is based on my inner and outer self. For example, in line six I state: “I am from the tropical beaches”. This is a metaphor because I was not actually born on the beach, but instead, is something that makes me who I am.…
