Concurs with my Teaching Philosophy

The importance of understanding days that are commemorated in Australia is discussed in the Humanities and Social Sciences (History) domain of the Australian Curriculum (AC). The curriculum for Year 3 stipulates students to look at days commemorated in Australia, such as Remembrance Day, its historical origins and the importance of symbols (ACARA, 2014a, ACHHK063). As a result an integrated thematic unit on Remembrance Day has been created. Adopting this thematic approach enables the educator to connect together many areas of the curriculum and integrate them within a theme. This way of teaching, strongly aligns with my philosophy, which allows the learning to be more natural and less fragmented, allows

The lessons are organised where students will facilitate skills of exploration, be engaged in group discovery processes, creative reflections and problem solving outcomes rather than just information development (Bennett, Rolheiser & Stevahn, 1991). Students are provided with opportunities to work as a whole class, independently, in pairs or in small groups. These are key strategies that resonate with my philosophy that it will co-create meaning and provide a deep learning experience for all students (AITSL, 2014: 2.1). Examples of these strategies are: Lesson one - whole class discussion where students are challenged to come up with and explore their own questions on days commemorated (Remembrance Day) (ACARA, 2014a, ACHHK063) creating a more engaging and motivating learning environment (Fetherston, 2006). Independent work (choosing to complete activity one on their own) enables students to demonstrate their individual depth and level of learning (Fetherston, 2006). Whilst, organising pair work (Lesson one - think/share activity) and group work (Lessons two and three) enables students, in particular under performing learners, to become self confident as learners, think aloud, take risks and develop deeper understandings (Bennett et al., …show more content…
Lesson two, creating a timeline (ACARA, 2014b, ACHHS065) will appeal to the spatial intelligence learner to connect new material to known information and in session four, students can show their learning using a variety of methods. For students who demonstrate verbal/linguistic intelligence they have the opportunity to write a reflective piece, visual/spatial learners can illustrate their learning through creative

In this video, we are brought into Ms. Wessling’s 12th grade English class. As we start the video, students are greeted with a new seating arrangement as soon as they walk into class, which from the looks of things has a few students worried because they know they will be doing something not so comfortable today. It just wasn’t a normal day for them. Then Ms. Wessling begins by explaining exactly what they are doing today and gives out cards to her students to play individual roles for the group activity. She does a mini lesson to help model for her students exactly what she is looking while the students are in their groups doing this activity on their own.…

While Roberts-Smith and his accompanied image share a cynicism of being against the date, relying heavily on both family values, patriotism and emotive language. V. Russell in contrast, uses attacks and rhetorical questions to put forward his argument that we as Australia shouldn’t dwell on our history, but to ‘scrap it and start again’, threatening the freedom of society. Roberts-Smith’s piece has a passionate tone, expressing the view of our cultures commitment to a day of unity. It is possible to distinguish his accompanied photographs as sharing this view, expressed in the figures holding up our national flag to represent our country. V. Russell sidesteps the issue of whether Aussies can acknowledge a day that ‘signifies our history’, framing the issue instead as having no relevance.…

Australia day commemorates the anniversary of the arrival of the first fleet on the 26th of January 1788. To some, it means the beginning of the dispossession of aborigines and the lost of their culture, but to others that was the birth of a great nation. This time of the year sparks many debates on whether Australia day should be celebrated or not. Chris Berg contends that the emergence of Australia as a great and powerful nation cannot be pinpointed to a certain date, nor is the 26th of January necessarily a date to rightfully celebrate on in his article ‘there is much to celebrate on Australia day’, in which he adopts an evaluative tone. Alternatively, in her article ‘changing the date won’t fix Australia day’, Celeste Liddle argues rationally…

My name is Jessica Bell, a social historian, and I will be discussing the various aspects that make up the Anzac legend. The legend has played a crucial part in shaping the ways Australians interpret both the past and look into the future. It is a chance for each and every one of us to reflect on this everlasting spirit. The Anzac Legend is about the essence of our nation, the eternal fighting spirit, the sadness and grief for the loss of young lives and the horror of war.…

“Should Australia Day be celebrated on the 26th of January?” Most people think that this date should be changed so it is less offensive to the aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population. This is incliuding a man named Chris Graham from Aboriginal Affairs who wrote an article on the 26/1/16 called ‘Change the date; Read this if you want to know why Australia day is offensive’. Chris thinks that Australia Day is an unnecessary reminder of the troubles of the indigenous population and how this represents a deep disrespect towards them. He speaks in both an aggressive and informal tone and supports his contention with a picture of Kevin Rudd after he denied his promise.…

Curiosity is the wick in the candle of learning. In the article, “The Case for Curiosity,” Senior Lecturer Susan Engel, discussed the idea of children and older students having curiosity about other topics than what is being lectured in everyday class. Showing the percentage of those wishing to speak out from their imagination, however, it appears that many individuals in the article do not have the motive to give because of the American Public Education System being too focused on what needs to be taught, and to seek nothing else. The American Public Education System primarily discourages curiosity in a few certain factors. Making students stay focused only on the topic, teaching students to speak up and participate, observing how students…

‘They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.’ ANZAC is a term which can define our nation. It is a legend which every Australian holds dear and one that will be passed down through generations forevermore. It is on this solemn day, the 25th of April, our country gathers, as one, to commemorate the audacious actions of those noble men and women, who, over a century ago, sacrificed themselves at Gallipoli for our freedom.…
