There are certain traits that make a great leader. Those traits can be found in the character, Ralph, in Lord of the Flies, written by william Golding. As the novel opens the reader meets Ralph and Jack, who were stranded on an island with their peers. It is quickly realized that there is no adult supervision and the boys vie for position a chief. Ralph, the protagonist, is elected over Jack, the novel’s antagonist, to lead the group of young boys. Some of Ralph’s traits that make him a better leader than Jack are his ability to prioritise and his ability to think. Although some may say that Jack is a better leader because he was the leader of the choir. This can be quickly disputed because they barely show allegiance to him. Ralphs essential leadership traits make him a much better pick for a leader than Jack. One trait that selects Ralph as a better leader is his ability to prioritise. Ralph as well as other leaders demonstrate the ability to think objectively and with a clear basis of logic. “They are able to see the 'big picture' and act accordingly” (Wills). Ralph never loses the drive to be found, as indicated be his statement in chapter 2, “We want to be rescued, and of course we shall be rescued.” He has a clear objective …show more content…
Ralph, from the novel Lord of The Flies, is an example of one of these people. He is a better leader than Jack, the other character with the possibility of having a leadership role, because he possesses traits that Jack does not. Ralph has the ability to prioritise and the ability to think. Even though some can say that Jack is a better leader because he was the choirs leader this can be disputed by the choirs lack of allegiance. The boys though have allegiance to Ralph which is another factor that makes Ralph the better leader. Also, Karin Wills says that Being a leader is not about the power of the role, but it is about exhibiting leadership skills when they are needed
