In many countries, prostitution is illegal. Even in the U.S, which is such an advanced country, prostitution is only legal in eleven counties in Nevada. However, the Final Report on the Evaluation of the First Offender Prostitution Program, prepared by Michael Shively, et al., shows that fifteen to twenty percent of men in the U.S have engaged in commercial sex at least one time (10). According to the United States Census in 2010, there are 151,781,326 males in the U.S, so approximately 22.767 million to 30.356 million men have spent money on prostitution. Some people argue that prostitution is the selling women’s bodies and regard women’s bodies as products as well, so prostitution should be banned and considered as unethical. However, prostitutes do not really sell their bodies. Instead, they just provide a kind of service and it will not hurt them if they are under certain protection. Furthermore, it is unfair to say that prostitutes’ bodies are regarded as products. Bodies are only the prostitutes’ tools, but how to make customers satisfied depends on their skills. Like massage therapists, they do not sell their hands, instead, they provide service by using their hands to make customers content. Not every massage therapists can satisfy all customers; not every prostitute can make all customers comfortable. It all depends on their skills and experiences. Furthermore, many prostitutes play a role as psychologists. Prostitutes provide both physical and mental service. Some customers come for the feeling of intimacy and being listened to.
