Why Is Professionalism Important In The Army

No one is more professional than I. Profession of Arms is a requirement for all military personnel: Commissioned, Noncommissioned or otherwise. Professionalism help save lives and guarantees the completion of the mission. As a professional, it is your responsibility to become an expert, in any given field, and to make sure that your knowledge is shared and grasped by fellow Soldiers. Professional Soldiers are all volunteers who have made sacrifices to protect and serve. They use discretionary judgement drawn from years of experience and knowledge, not formulas, to find solutions. Professional Soldiers have adapted the Profession of Arms way and are prepared to protect and defend in combat, when and if needed. Profession of Arms is about giving all Soldiers the opportunity to be trained, educated and prepared for the future. Professionalism affects everyone; however, it is not always noticed in every situation. The Non Commissioned Officer (NCO) creed states, “regardless of the situation in which I find myself,” means always be professional even when you think no one is watching. We want the junior Soldiers to say, “now that is a great professional Staff Sergeant and someday I will be as professional as them”. Within the last decade, the Army has become more focused on education. When training, educating and mentoring the professional must always revert and instill the Army values. Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage are all skills needed to become the best professional. This motto should be repeated and represented at all times.
