The first work sample is from a student named Savanna. Savanna’s table had two dark colored rocks that were quite similar in size. The rocks were similar in almost every way, but one of their only differences was their color. Savanna saw this difference immediately and wrote it down on her paper. One of the things that really surprised me, however, was when Savanna wrote down the word “irregular.” One of the descriptive words that I put under the Elmo was the word “irregular.” I did this because I wanted to teach the class that not all objects have perfect shapes. I chose to keep Savanna’s work because of this reason. The second work sample is from a girl named Isabel. Isabel was at Savanna’s table and had the same two rocks. However, Isabel had a hard time looking at the words on the Elmo, so this is why I chose Isabel’s work sample.
What I Learned as a Teacher I learned that you never know what to expect when doing a lesson. I learned that disruptions can come up out of nowhere during a lesson and that you must try to keep your cool and keep the lesson going. I also learned that your lesson might get interrupted by the class schedule and that you might not have time to finish the lesson. I learned this the hard way, when my class had to go to music. However, this experience helped me grow as a teacher and helped me see that sometimes a lesson does not go the way that you have planned.
