Why Is Perseverance Important

Perseverance is defined as steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Courage is the ability to do something that frightens oneself. Perseverance is a guiding principle displayed during the Age of Reason, and courage is a guiding principle displayed in during mModern dDay America. During the time of the Founding Fathers, around the 1770s, George Washington was faced with the daunting and near impossible task of keeping his army-men alive while fighting the tough and bold British army during the War for Independence. Washington’s army was extremely weak during the battle-- they had limited weapons, food and other supplies, and all of the men had little to no experience in a war zone, compared to the daunting British army. As George Washington’s Continental Army repeatedly lost battle after battle, many army-men, including Washington himself, considered surrendering. Washington, who was desperate for a victory, planned on invading Trenton, New Jersey on Christmas Day 1776. To rise above a challenge that may be scary must takes much courage and in order to successfully succeed in a challenge you must persevere. Without courage, you will not learn how to persevere. An example of this is how George Washington and his army was reluctant to fight again, but he took a courageous move and persevered onward and scored a victory.
In conclusion, both courage and perseverance are two very important guiding principles in America. Without these principles, America may have not become shaped like it is today.
