Why Is Peer Review Important To Me

Improved Essays
Peer review was extremely beneficial to me. I strongly believe that my paper was much higher quality because of peer review. The suggestions that my peer reviewer’s (Nate and Julia) made were very helpful; these suggestions allowed me to look at my paper in a different perspective. In addition, these suggestions gave me the opportunity to enrich my writing with a different style, one that I would not have come up on my own. I made crucial corrections throughout my paper, due to suggestions that my peer reviewer’s made. If my peers did not edit my paper, I would have left out crucial information that would have caused my reader mass confusion. Additionally, my paper would not be nearly as precise and cut to the point, if it were not for my

Where they found that, “in fact, well over 90 percent of the sentences coded clear and error free.” One thing which caught my interest was the difference of opinion between the two authors about Peer review and its result. As per Teller’s experience, peer reading is mostly a waste of time and energy with no productive outcome of a good composition, Hesse thinks otherwise. He states that some of the best written work has come out of peer reading experiments. While, Teller thinks that students usually ignore their classmates’ suggestions in peer workshops, Hesse explains that they acknowledge the feedback and produce their best…

Understanding the Spectrum of Jealousy in Dogs The article my group picked was “Jealousy in Dogs,” the experiment was conducted by Christine R. Harris and Caroline Prouvost out of the University of California, San Diego. The article was published in July of 2014 by the Public Library of Science (PLOS). The paper covers animal behavior, specifically dog emotions. The topic is interesting because I was always told you anthropomorphize your pets by giving them emotions.…

Here is my evaluation of my peers’ review. On the scale of 1 to 5, Hannah Vassar’s review is ranked number 5. She was very helpful with her suggestions such as she changed a few of my sentences to make them sound better. She also was very thorough and caught some mistakes that I would not have caught if she would not have reviewed it. For example, she caught a mistake I made in my header about not capitalizing a letter in my address.…

SARTRE PRESENTATIONS/SEMINARS Summary of Comments/Score. Overall, my group’s presentation was clear and we were able to convey our section to the class well without too much assistance from you. However, our written outline had a few issues. First, the outlines organization was a little cluttered and could have been cleaned up to be easier to follow. Additionally, we struggled with the rhetorical function section of the outline.…

The author, Andrew Braaksma, wrote "Some lessons from the Assembly Line." Working in the factory was somewhat of a life changing event for Andrew. In his article, he mentions work conditions, how his fellow employees felt and what he learned while attending school during his employment at the factory. Andrew’s goal was to go into detail of how poor the conditions were at the factory. He spoke of the “sweltering production floor”.…

During the writing of my “Fahrenheit 451” and Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” Analysis, I began by first, thinking out my ideas, to put together an essay that would be understandable to myself, the people reviewing my essay, and lastly, my teacher. You are needing a thesis to get your point situated right in front of the readers’ eyes so he or she doesn’t get bewildered while reading. In almost any standardized essay however, your maximum length for a thesis is at most, needing to be one sentence. Even though, you're evidently going to need to write more to get the introduction that is impeccable, but simple.…

The debate on the importance of Liberal Arts is dear to my heart because of the impact my high school Humanities class had on me. Because of this, I had no difficulty forming an opinion in the debate and seeing the flaws in arguments against Liberal Arts. However, analyzing the flaws in an argument I agree with was harder than expected, but with the use of rhetorical analysis I was able to see the strong and weak points in the article. This allowed me to create a strong response that portrays my opinion in relation to the article’s arguments. Peer review was helpful because the process brought to light multiple grammar issues.…

Even though my contributions to the intellectual life of the class might have not been the best I believe that they were helpful not only to me but to some of my peers. Specifically in the peer reviews, I felt that those were crucial to the class, because every student had the opportunity to read and analyze another’s paper. By giving helpful criticism to someone else 's paper we were all receiving a new view into the type of essay we needed to be writing, therefore giving our own essays a new point of view to revise with. Consequently, peer reviews helped me learn to communicate better because I really wanted to give constructive criticism that my peers would find helpful towards improving their essays, so that I could also receive some in exchange. For example in the last essay I wrote one of the critics that I had was that one of my paragraphs was all wrong and that it really just did not mean much.…

The activity that we did as a class was the peer editing workshop for our papers which help me develop my writing skills. Doing the peer editing workshop helped me understand what errors that needed to be corrected and to hear the negative or positive comments from my peers.
