August 15, 1917 , Blessed Oscar Romero was born. When he was just fourteen years old he knew he wanted to be a priest, so he started to study. Unfortunately, Oscar had to drop out to make money for his sick mother. Seven years later, during World War II he traveled to rome to study. Just when Oscar was thirty years old he became an ordained priest, and decided to travel back to his hometown, San Salvador. After twenty- eight years of hard work as a priest he became a bishop. In 1977 he was made the Archbishop of San Salvador, and held that title till his death in 1980. While Oscar was a bishop there was a lot of violence in El Salvador, for poor people were being killed for standing up for their rights. Romero helped a couple of families
