Now, Ophelia is Laertes’s sister and Polonius’s daughter. It looks like Polonius is a single father and their family is close. It’s sensible to consider this, since she was honest with her father about her and Hamlet’s relationship, despite it being secret. My reasons for this being with her emotion and expression during the scene after her father told her to stay away from Hamlet. Ophelia had been returning his gifts to him while Polonius and the King were secretly watching. Therefore, Hamlet decided to act mad instead of that affectionate connection they’d presumably had before. I also feel like Ophelia should stick up for herself and be that principal main character of the story she should. Because of her somewhat contribution to the play, I was actually disappointed with her character. Although regarding our abridged versions, she could’ve been significant in the unabridged.
Furthermore, Hamlet is performed by many of actors worldwide.Now, if I had a chance to cast who’d be Ophelia, I’d pick Merritt Patterson. The reason why I would pick her was because of her role in “The Royals”. I personally believe her character was a modern-day Ophelia. Patterson’s name had been Ophelia and she was the advisor’s daughter. However, she was more outgoing than the Ophelia I’d met in the reading. Another idea why I’d think she should be Ophelia was because of her appearance. When I thought of Ophelia in the play, I’d immediately get the striking image of Merritt
