I have not had too many situations where I have met someone for the first time where they had not heard of me or my family. I hate that. They spend so much time assessing you based on what they have heard rather than listening to what you have to say. I know this because I am guilty of doing the same thing when I meet someone I know of for the first time. Everyone knows me as my brother's sister, a straight a student, and the kind, but quiet, girl who was involved in everything. They know that I am thoughtful and speak my mind, but with careful attention to every word. But many have not learned this from meeting me, but rather from meeting those who know me best. Attending Notre Dame, a college where so few from my hometown have even visited is exciting, for the first time in my life I will be able to meet people and see what their first impression of me

Part 1: College is a great place to meet new people of all different cultures. In fact, one experience I had with an individual of another culture took place at college. During my freshman year at Towson University, I enrolled in a Biology lecture with over 150 students and I happened to sit next to, Bella, a girl who was from Italy. As the semester went on, I got to know her better and learned that she was studying abroad for a semester. Even though she spoke English fluently, she had a very strong accent and I later learned that her native language was Italian.…

What draws me to Bates is it’s name. To be blunt, I would have never known about the institution. Not because I didn’t want to, but because no one around me ever mentioned it. Around the same time I started taking an interest to academics I was watching various shows, one being “Bates Motel”. Coincidentally the following month my counselor put up a poster with just the name of the college “Bates”.…

One of the reasons why I chose Cornell is to build my connections with people who are contributor, self-driven and well qualified. As said by my father in his native language and I translate, “Connections are very essential in your life son, if you want to spend time with anyone, spend it wisely. Be it on the roadside or in a coffee shop, your friends will define you and they are going to influence you in many ways.” I kept that on my mind and my future goal is also related with the connection that I’m going to make in America.…

For as long as I can remember, I have dreamed of enjoying the college atmosphere. While attending Ooltewah High School, I realized that my education in both school, and the Word of God, will help me further pursue my dreams. Where others see the work and stressful nights, and homework as a chore, I only see excitement. Even as a child, I constantly sought it out, first looking up different schools, then seeking different majors, then later in person appearing in every campus open house I could find. College in all its forms fascinated me, but schools that brought me closer to the Lord were in a category all to themselves.…
