Why Is Napoleon's Campaign Of 1812 In Russia Such A Failure

Napoleon Bonaparte the first, was the Emperor of France starting in 1804. With an addition of a being a general, he was able to have complete control of the army and military and decide what actions they would take. With this role he was able to lead the Grande Armee. The Grande Armee was created by Napoleon in 1802 and the purpose was to be able to train his officers in the way he would like for them to be trained. It had appeared that Napoleon and his army was winning all of the battles in Europe. So why was Napoleon’s campaign of 1812 in Russia such a failure? There had been many reasons why Napoleon had won the battles he was in and there were several reasons why he lost against Russia. First off, Napoleon would start a battle in a country where the country’s military was weaker. Meaning that the country did not have an advanced military nor did the equipment. Napoleon found it easier to win the battles in which the country’s military was weak and the countries without strong allies. The battles that Napoleon had entered before fighting Russia had become harder, and there was a slim chance of winning. When Russia entered the Battle of Eylau, it just went to show that Russia had a strong military. When Napoleon beat Prussia, he seemed to believe that could beat Russia, and therefore, brought his men there. As the first battles occurred, Napoleon’s army started using their supplies. Some of the men died from confrontations, diseases, freezing, starvation, and even sad enough as being trampled by their own men. With the army dying off, Napoleon’s chance of winning was slimming.
