Instead of sending me to a local public school, my parents choose to send me to a private, catholic school. The schools differed in their learning quality and corresponded with our practicing religion. Although my parents did not struggle financially in sending me to a parochial school, they sacrificed money and time that could have otherwise been spent on other things. Students can take various lessons away from this memoir. The most important is the value of their education and overlooked opportunities…

Bishop Feehan Essay I am excited to have the opportunity to attend a great school like Bishop Feehan. Bishop Feehan feels like a great fit for me. The Feehan Family is what intrigued me the most when I attended the open house and the Freshman Family Mass. It showed me that a strong community helps the students achieve more in school and in sports. As Principal Kane stated at the open house, A strong community helps the induvial achieve greater than he or she would on their own.…

My religious community has played a profound role on my development as an adult, the three guiding principals of Zoroastrianism: "Good Thoughts, Good Deeds, and Good Words" guide my actions daily. Being part of such a small community while heightening my sense of being has also made me more appreciative and understanding of other cultures & groups. For me understanding others has become a key component in understanding myself. My community has also enabled me to be a better communicator- as often times questions are asked regarding my ethnicity and religion where I can act as a spokesperson for the…

As an ignorant young adult, I wasn’t very outgoing; I was always the shy student, the one who always got bullied and I wouldn’t really talk to anyone. When I turned fourteen, my parents informed me I was to attend confirmation classes. I wasn’t exactly enthused at the new that I would attend it for two years. To add to these, wonderful news; my older brother was going with me too. Goody.…

I choose this project because my parents have been trying to get me to go back to that church and become a Catholic. So when I told them about my project they thought it was a good opportunity to go back and see if I would like it since I am older now. In this paper I will talk about the difference and similarities between the Catholic and Christian church, my experience in the church, what I learned, and how I felt when I was attending the church service. I noticed a lot of differences in the worship space at the Catholic Church.…

I grew up with a strong Italian background, my parents and grandparents wanted me to inherit many of the cultural beliefs and values. The Roman Catholic Church has been a place where my family and I gather to pray, for many occasions and celebrations. Here, grew my love for God and faith, I was able to reflect and pray and be one with God as I was in his presence. My family supported the love for God and this urgency to practice my faith. From infancy I have been going through all the sacraments of life, as I got older I started to understand the teachings and values more clearly.…

My purpose in life is to serve others. My mother says this began at birth because I was such an easy baby so she could take care of my hyperactive and autistic brother; she says it is just naturally who I am, and I agree. This is the reason I chose to attend high school at St. Joseph’s Academy whose motto is “Not I, But We,” and whose mission includes “serving the dear neighbor without distinction.” This is also the reason I chose to attend a Jesuit University for my undergraduate career, as its mission incorporates making “decisions in the light of what is truly for… the service of those in need” as well as forming “men and women for others.” These ideals are my ideals, and I believe that this is what draws me to be an Occupational Therapist…

Catholic moral reasoning does not solely rely on the sources and norms of the Catholic Church in order to obtain friendship with God. While the sources and norms serve as the primary ways to achieve and know friendship with God there are different aids that are available to help one pursue one’s proper ends. The aids are broken into external and internal. There are also obstacles that stand in the way or interrupt one’s pursuit of the good; these are called vices. With the help of the external and internal aids, along with the pursuit of virtue one can overcome vice and reach one’s proper end.…

The faith that has most influenced my life was accepting who I am. I was born to Vietnamese parents; however, I did not believe myself as Vietnamese. I always pretended to be Japanese because I did not want to be different from my Japanese friends. I learned Vietnamese from my father since I was a child, and my parents always communicate with me in Vietnamese. Literally, I did not prefer to speak in Vietnamese, especially in public, because I cared about what others think of my family.…

There has not been just one priest or sister in my life that has affected me more than another, but many have impacted my life over the years. Since I started school at St. Dominic High School last year, I feel I now have a better understanding of the catholic faith and its real meaning. Before, I went to a mass at St. Dominic, I never fully understood everything in mass or what it meant. I would always just go through the motions and not really understand what I was doing. I have learned through the masses at school what I am doing during church and this has helped me even outside of school.…

The first thought that comes to your mind when your parents tell you that you are going to a Catholic high school is “What did I do to deserve this punishment?” All negative reactions and looking back at your previous choices in life to see what have you done in the past that led to this decision. Oddly enough, this was not the same for me. Since the only institution I have enrolled in was a Catholic elementary school, it was felt familiar to me to go to a Catholic high school. What I did not know was that the amount of diversity in my high school was lower than my overall GPA.…

A well-taught class is one that provides you with proper knowledge on the subject, while simultaneously putting the subject matter in the larger context of a shared history and current affairs. For centuries religion has been in conversation with almost every academic pursuit created by man. Naturally, the argument of how religion should be taught in schools is part of the argument on the best way for American students to be taught, as it should be. Currently, public schools, especially secondary schools, are merely ignoring religion altogether and have silently agreed to keep it largely outside of academic conversation. However, ignoring religion is a fruitless effort that negatively affects students.…
