Depression, mental health, stress and suicide is high at present. There are more antidepressants available to society. As times move forward, the stress seems to rise as well. Cost of living is higher and this alone brings stress to the average person. You see many mental health issues that are observed today, but treated differently than in the past. I believe this is due to the fact that our society understands mental health issues better than in the past. Understands how to treat many mental health problems, where in the past people were institutionalized simply because society did not understand. Violence and physical abuse are common today, but I believe that this is because it is more known or reported than 10, 20, 30 years ago. For example, in the 1960s women did not call the police to report physical and sexual abuse as much as they do today. More crimes are reported, so the statistics rise. I believe that this has been happening all along, but not reported. Child abuse is recognized and reported more today than in the 1960s as well. This can be a struggle for adolescents, but also for parents. There is more parenting resources today than in the 1960s. Teaching parents the tools they need to use has become a large part of raising children today. Today adolescents are maturing faster than in the 1950s and 1960s. Society is more accepting today of premarital sex, premarital pregnancy, and parenting. Years ago, women wanted to wait until marriage to have intercourse and decisions about parenting was to happen after marriage. Today most women have sex before they turn 21. There is many types of birth control for adolescents, and today relationships that involve intercourse has risen since the 1950s. I have to wonder if this is because the adolescents are more open today about their sexuality than in the
