Why Is Mehlhaff Effective

I would say that I am mostly in agreement with the scoring that the SIOP text gave these teachers. Starting with Mr. Mehlhaff, had issues in the fact that he was not providing the guidance in his lesson that are critical for English learners. Even know he did reread his objectives Mr. Mehlhaff was unsuccessful in making the task clear for all students. He would have been more effective in modeling for the students and providing some scaffolding that should be built into his teaching. His scores throughout the lesson ranged from a 0-2, which I believe that a good average based on the rubric, would be giving this lesson a 1.

In Chapter Four of Holler If You Hear Me by Gregory Michie, the author describes how some of the other veteran teachers in his education classes expressed their views on the disconnect between education theory and classroom reality. One such example of this disconnect is the theory of differentiated instruction. I have learned a lot about differentiated instruction in my Foundations Block classes this semester, since I had not previously heard of the concept. In theory, this practice is a great way to tailor instruction to each student’s individual needs, as well as encourage learning and exploration.…

For example, throughout the video, the educator positioned herself within the classroom so that every student was in eyesight. Even whilst working with small groups of students during guided reading, the educator would gaze beyond the group to monitor other students. This is an essential strategy that I can employ in my own teaching practice. For instance, it’s necessary to let my students understand that I’m aware of and care about what’s going on in the classroom, especially if I aspire to increase their ability to stay on-task.…

My fieldwork experience has made me understand that having numerous teaching strategies like Mrs. Meredith is very beneficial to the students. If one student does not grasp a concept when you are explaining it then you as a teacher can try showing it to them.
