One way the Native Americans acted as heroes was when they taught the Corps of Discovery some survival skills. According to the article “Discovering Lewis and Clark”, it states, “Pacific salmon, which the Nez Perce fed the starving expedition in Northern Idaho.” This reveals how Lewis and Clark were in danger because of their lack of food, however the Native Americans saved them by feeding them pacific salmon. Julie Cajune from the video, “View From the Shore”, explains how the Native Americans contributed to the expedition by feeding them and giving them horses on their journey. Horses during this time was a great source of transportation and were needed to pass the Rocky Mountains. The reason why Lewis and Clark were able to pass through the Rocky Mountains was because the Native Americans gifted them with horses. Without horses, Lewis and Clark would have not made it past the Rocky Mountains and the expedition would have ended up
