In Salem, Massachusetts many people were being accused of being witches and involved with witchcraft. People were shouting random people's names saying this person is a witch and that. Unfortunately John proctor was one that was accused for doing witchcraft. He was accused by a lot of people like danford has he says “have you ever seen the devil(pg 90)” believing that proctor has seen the devil. John proctor is facing authority has he's is being the individual trying to figure out what is this all about with witchcraft. And proctor doesn't confess because he's knows he is not a witch. The only witchcraft he sees is the one happening in the whole village of Salem with accussings and hangings of people.
