Jesse Owens: An Extraordinary Person “ Don't wait for extraordinary opportunities. Seize common occasions and make them great. Weak men wait for opportunities; strong men make them (Marden).” This quote is saying how as a person you should not simply wait for great things to happen, because if you wait for them to happen then they will take a long time or they will never ever happen. Instead, you have to go take actions on your own that will achieve all the goals that you have set to want to happen in your life. Jesse Owens did exactly this by doing actions in his life that made him become an extraordinary person. When attending the 1938 Olympic and winning the track events that he had been participating in.“Take a stand for what's right. Raise a ruckus and make a change. You may not always be popular, but you'll be part of something larger and bigger and greater than yourself. Besides, making history is extremely cool (Jackson).” This quote states that as a person you have to do what you feel is right. Even if it may make others get upset at you, because what you are doing can make a change. Then after the change does happen you may not get recognized for it by others, but you would have just done something amazing that will be in history. Jesse Owens had done exactly this when he had gone to the 1938 Olympic and changed the mindset of the people that were there the way people were thinking. It was when he simply had gone to compete in the Olympic games, because at that time Hitler was trying to prove to the world that Germany’s race was more superior than any other race that were existing at the time. In Fact, the German papers would talk negative about America for sending in “ black auxiliaries” and for allowing “non-humans” to compete for them. Surprisingly, the rest of Germany, had only known the name “Jesse Owens”, they did not really know that he was even African American.
