It is not wrong to question or doubt gospel doctrine. Without doubt, church members would be less motivated to finding the truth. Questions lead to building testimonies. Some may think that questioning or doubting doctrines given by prophets is a sign that someone is falling away or lacks faith. However, people ask questions to gain knowledge and build faith. Elder Utchdorf in his talk "Come, Join with Us" declared, "There are few members of the Church who, at one time or another, have not wrestled with serious or sensitive questions." Belief in doctrine means that I know that everything created by God is sacred and is necessary in establishing my biblical truth. That belief in Christ means that I know Him, what He has done, and what He has promised. It is also important for me to know and live my own biblical truth of who I am and what I believe as it will determine where I spend eternity.…

I think you made several valid points in your discussion board regarding the Christian gospel such as the moral reasons why an individual would reject Christianity (2), and what Christians can do to undertake moral, emotional, and intellectual objections (5). Overall, I understand the conclusions that you’ve reached; however, I do believe that you minimized the complexity of an individual’s negative emotional and intellectual responses to Christianity for the most part. Just as the human emotions are numerous, so too are the reasons and reactions people can have. I have no doubt in my mind that the central cause for people’s rejection of Christianity has to do with the existence and toleration of evil in this world. As for your opinion on intellectual…

In order for Christology to work, the person of Jesus must be known and a major idea discussed in this novel is homoousios, Jesus is full and truly God. Two other important characteristics of God found in this chapter are immutability¬¬ and impassibility. Immutability means that God is unchanging and impassibility states that He is never overwhelmed by emotion.…

The book, Can We Trust the Gospels, attempts to answer two basic questions that are posed to many Christians at least once in their lifetime: Do the Gospels provide reliable, historical information about Jesus of Nazareth? And do they offer a trustworthy basis for having faith in Jesus Christ? The author, Mark Roberts, is referring to the first four books found in today’s New Testament Bible, not other texts or “gnostic gospels” that are found elsewhere in literature.…

In order to uncover unknown information from an ancient civilization, archeologists usually do extensive digging and research in a specified area; however, to uncover truths about Jesus Christ, there was no removal of dirt, as the world 's most sold book was dug into. Although Christianity continues to be the most popular religion, scholars came together in a Seminar, seeking to find the provable truth, which leads to unpopular conclusions. Throughout the article entitled, The Gospel Truth? by David Van Biema, the question of Jesus and the two lenses through which we see him, faith and history, are explored, conclusions are made, and reactions are instant. Instead of believing by faith and tradition, the Jesus Seminar is an attempt to identify…

I like your use of the passage in 1 Peter which states that we should always be prepared with answers because we will often be questioned about our faith if we share it, whether it by by someone wanting to learn more or by someone who disagrees. Might it be helpful to add just how we can be prepared when we have no way of knowing what questions others may pose? In Christian Apologetics (2006), Powell states: "we must equip ourselves with the facts, evidence, and arguments for Christianity" (p. 24). We equip ourselves by studying the Bible for ourselves, whether that be in a group or on our own. I enjoy and get much from my pastor's sermons, but he has encouraged us not to take his word for what the Bible says but encourages us to read and…

Questions are barriers to communication and may stall the construction of a positive relationship. On the other hand, reflections, paraphrases and summarizing are crucial and eminent when responding. An individual is more likely to respond and open up when you reflect their feeling rather than ask a question. In addition, they may not know how they are feeling however, if you have an idea, reflecting the feeling gives them the sense that you understand.…
