Why Is It Ok To Lie

Is it ok to lie in any situation, or is it just wrong to lie at all ? In four articles that I read, it states a couple of things, for example, they talk about lying and if it's bad, is lying sometimes good, and is lying good. I believe lying is only good sometimes and it should only be used in white lies. I think a good time to lie is when you protect someone. One scenario of this is the story of Ann Frank.this is a good example because they were protecting Ann and her family by saying that there was nothing upstairs. Another made up example is, if you and your significant other are walking and a shoot-out breaks out. You tell your woman to hide, and she does, A man with a gun comes rushing towards you and asks if anyone else is with you, …show more content…
One example of this is, if you are a con man or a businessman, you know how to pick on people that are not as smart. You can convince them to buy something for one hundred dollars, but really costs ten dollars. In one of the articles,”Teens Do their Share Of Lying”, by Loretta Ragsdell, the boys and girls are interviewed and they say lying is ok. The teens state that when you lie it's better because you get away with many things. For example, if you go out at night to a party, and your mom asks where you have been, you can tell her that you were at your sleeping over at your friend's house, because you already know that you friends will back you up. Teens also said that if you get caught in a lie, just make up another lie to cover up that lie. All this led me to believe that it's only right to lie sometimes in certain occasions. The four articles all gave good examples on why you should or shouldn't or sometimes should lie about sometimes. I think you should not lie for your own gain nor anything else that can cause harm, the whole moral is that you should not really lie. You shouldn't be allowed to lie for your own gain. It is wrong and you can also lose credibility with the people if you get

Most people will say that lying is never the answer, but they don’t always tell why. Lying often ends unethically, not only the can the lier be punished or feel guilty in the process, but it often goes further than anticipated. When looking back there seems to be more consequences on the result of the pretense than what the reward would have been if everything worked out and there was no lying. The Salem Witch Trials, the McCarthy Trials, and the McMartin Trials all proved that it is important to always be honest, regardless of the sacrifice.…

Ericsson goes into great detail of about 10 of them, but there are many more. Some lies are for your peace of mind and maybe still bad for both parties, and some are for the better of someone else’s feelings. Ericsson believes that even if you feel you are perfect, nobody is and still tell lies no matter big or small, we do it and at times are unaware that it is considered a lie.
