Why Is It Important To Support Individual Needs

It is important that play is based on the child’s interests as they will be carrying on playing if they are interested in it. I have learnt this since researching about Reggio Emilia, Reggio believed that children will remain on task if they are interested and motivated in it. It is also important that practitioners work closely with the child’s parents as they are the child’s first educators. This could be done by having meetings with the parents or speaking to them at the end of the day, this will help practitioners to learn more about the child and what their interests are. In my setting, I and other practitioners will speak to the parents at the end of the day and discuss what the child has been up to. However, if the parents don’t speak …show more content…
The most effective way to do this is by providing activities which suits their needs and their interests. However, if the child has additional needs the practitioner will need to produce an individual play plan as it fits around the child’s individuals needs and it helps the child to stick to a routine. This will benefit the child and the parent as the child will have a routine and if the routine changed then the child may miss-behave. Having an individual plan will make sure that the provision is inclusive as it will fit around the child’s individual needs and it is putting the child first. (2017). When considering the environment for play it is important that practitioners consider the child’s welfare and safety. The practitioners can do this by doing risk assessments before the children come into the setting. Also, by checking if the equipment is working for them to play with. For example, if the children wants the bike out then it is important that the practitioners make sure they are working. If the environment was indoor the practitioners should make sure the toys are working and not broken. If there are broken then it is important that the practitioners chuck them out as the children can’t hurt themselves and others. In my setting, to make sure we consider the welfare and safety of the children we do regular risk assessments to make the child can’t hurt themselves. For example, in the setting we done a risk assessment on the outdoor environment and we found some hazards like have pots and pans on the floor. We had to pick these up as the child can trip over them and fall
