Most people have felt the desire to write a book or had the idea for one, but have never actually gotten around to doing it because they feel they can’t begin such a huge project. They don’t have any clue where to start. Writing a book is by no means an easy task, but anyone can do it. A book is, at its very core, a simple idea that eventually blossoms into a story. They don’t have to be dozens of chapters long and have intricate twists lurking around every corner, but they should have a beginning, a buildup, a climax, and a resolution.…

Purpose is the reason a story was written, whether it is informative, persuasive, or entertaining. In the case of Prometheus and the First People , Olivia E. Coolidge wrote the story to inform the reader of the Greek myth of Prometheus. The author stays detached from the text, not providing an opinion on it, allowing the reader to take in the information and make their own assumptions. An example of this is, “ The Greeks have several stories on how man came to be”, she…

I would have to say my second part of writing though is turning it in. I like the feeling of accomplishment I feel when I don’t have to worry about something anymore. I don’t know if I would necessarily say that writing is easy for me or that I’m good at it, but I guess I wouldn’t say it's hard. I guess the thing that kept me motivated in writing though was probably just to please and fulfill my everyone’s expectations. I had a reputation of being smart because I got good grades.…

Whether we know it or not in this modern society we are writers everyday of our lives. These interactions shape not only how we communicate but how we write as well. Personally, I have been shaped by the influence of both other writers I have known and those I have only read the creations of. In one of her TED Talks, Dr. Angela Duckworth explains how her theory of grit can be a predictor of a person’s success. According to her, grit is defined as “passion and perseverance for very long-term goals” (qtd in Duckworth).
