We have to keep one thing in mind when answering this question: Officer’s only have two years tactical experience on an ODA to base all future decisions on. Because of that, commander’s have enlisted advisors to give them advice but from only one perspective. Yes, we do have the WO’s at the battalion and company levels to give advice however, commander’s don’t always seek it for one reason or another. I have personally experienced company commanders that thought and treated the COW as a secretary to do all paperwork as well as plan PMTs. This is only one example but it shows that some commanders do not know how to employ Warrant Officers. Warrant Officers have a plethora of experience in both worlds, officer and enlisted.
