Apple Corporation has advertised that the new 4G iPhone has an eight hour battery life using standard operating procedures. Just what are standard operating procedures? Is it a fully charged battery phone a) sitting on the counter, b) used by granny to call the doctor, or c) miss social butterfly talking to her 20 friends and five boyfriends? Proceedure:
Our staff decided to analyze the claim. Peter Baratta, our senior analyst in charge of testing handheld devices formulated the plan. A stratified sampling was decided upon for the best results. Peter personally went to five different Apple stores and borrowed five units of the same models, with new uncharged batteries. The staffs of 25 technicians would each get a fully charged phone, make three calls per hour, for duration of 1 minute, and register when the phone completely lost power. To facilitate the process, the technicians will call their personal cell phone to ensure accurate timing.

The 25 figures were calculated in the following manner; the shortest time was 4.5 hours, the mean was 6.61 hours, the median was 6.5 hours and the longest running battery lasted nine hours. The technicians performed a hypothesis t-test using a left tail calculation with the following results, the P value equal .009 which is less than the .05 standard level of significance value.
