Maybe you disagree with your boss’s business practice but are too shy or too afraid to rock the boat to stand-up for what you really think or believe. If you see something wrong the logical thing would be to make it right. Unfortunately the reality it is that a lot of people are unwilling to do the right thing, due to lack of responsibility or fear of failure. I believe, that when people are willing to take a stand they have to come to the realization that they may not win in the end. Overcoming this stigma is difficult, but when people do they come realize that they are doing something great regardless if they win or lose. I believe winning is just a matter of circumstance, not all succeed, but that doesn't make their effort any less impactful.…

I don’t wear flannels, have dyed hair, or have a favorite obscure band. At first glance, there is little about my appearance to suggest that I am a nonconformist. I have my own thoughts, values, and passions, and throughout high school they have at times come into direct contrast with the typical students’ beliefs.…

Because it shouldn’t be.…

I will now outline Albert Z. Carr’s arguments showing how the business world follows game ethics rather than the ethics used in an individual’s private life. In his essay, Carr uses “the analogy of the criminal court, where the criminal is not expected to tell the truth when he pleads “not guilty”” (Carr, 1968, p.400) and how the job of the defendant’s attorney is get his client off, not reveal the truth” (Carr, 1968, p.400). The defendant not expected to tell the truth due to the fact that if the defendant is in fact guilty and does not want to go to jail they will plead “not guilty” and that the defense attorney’s goal is to acquit their client. The burden of proof in a criminal case is “beyond a reasonable doubt” and rests on the prosecution,…

At these times, will we have the strength and courage to stand our ground and do what we know is right and just? Or will we “cave in” to please others or to “look good”? Today may we pray for the strength and courage to do what we believe is right, even if others may not approve of our choice or our action.…

I have learned the lesson from Betty Vinson situation in WorldCom Inc. when she was influenced by her manager pressure and her responsibilities towards her family to agree with what he asked her to do and rationalized it using the marginal cost theory by saying to herself “just this once”.
