The Midwest, a place in the world where communities are closely aligned to one another. These small, rural communities rely on every person in order to create that community. It seems as though that knowing everyone around the small communities was what made a person successful in life. Additionally, these communities valued hard-work and honesty when it came with almost everything they did in their lives; whether it was working in the farmlands or spreading information throughout the communities about certain people to look out for, it was hard to be anonymous inside the city. Unfortunately, there are sometimes citizens that do not look forward to that kind of lifestyle.…
For the next five years I lived in White Plains, New York and living there was unique, in that owning a vehicle was obsolete. I was able to walk to the store, the park and to school. The ability to walk everywhere gave my the opportunity to build relationships with my whole community and to many, it may come as surprise that even with living in a big city most of the people living within it knew each other. Even though I come from a culturally distinct country and lived in the city that never sleeps I can only call Baltimore, Maryland my home. Living in Baltimore, has had a big impact on my life because it has shaped my identity and personality.…
Apple pie on the window sill, sprinklers running over the back yard, a lemonade stand on the front yawn : Welcome to Smalltown, U.S.A. Should you add in a theatre dedicated to supporting local talent, ten schools ran by determined staffs, and several local businesses, you’d watch Smalltown become Culpeper, Virginia. Culpeper, a county that embraces diversity, is the poster for a small town. If this sounds like a boring place to live, an in depth look may be needed. The town of Culpeper is a very beneficial place to live in, thanks to the accurate cliche of a small town, the surge of local business, and the multiple activities available to adolescents.…
Hello Shefa, are you moving to Newton? Wow, that's awesome! I haven't herd you from a while, since you're busy with moving. I know it's going to be hard moving from Turkey to here. I herd you were going to continue with classes or start them here.…
In many ways I am glad that I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Negaunee is a town of 4,600 and everyone knows each others names and business. It is easy to get a label and hard to get rid of one. There are many downfalls of growing up in a small town, such as lack of diversity, opportunity and privacy as well as extremely cold, long winters. I think that the benefits are different for everyone.…
Before moving to the city of Portsmouth, Virginia I grew up in the small country town of Lavaca, Arkansas. While some aspects of living in the city is consistent with living in the country, the city lifestyle offers more convenience, experiences, and opportunities. Growing up in a town with a population of around two thousand people means being a part of a tight knit community. I was surprised to find that same sense of community living in a town of over ninety-six thousand people. I have built friendly relationships with many of my neighbors and attended community events and gatherings in the same way I did living in the country.…
Majority of small communities tend to be very similar. As they would usually contain the same type of buildings, as well as having elementary, middle, and a high school. Also a place where family owned or small business and/or restaurants tend to go to make their money. But communities have different types of culture that make the community, like how you can realize the difference when you pass signs saying “ Entering Navajo Nation” compared to Greenville.…
They say the goal in life is to live the “American Dream” and I would say I am living it head first. It all started when the time in my life came to pick an Univeristy to attend, and boy am I ecstatic with my decision to attend West Virginia University. WVU opened so many doors for me; however, if it was not for my family, I would not be where I am today. I was very content with going to my local University and living at home because that was comfortable to me, but my family encourged me to find a new start.…
I grew up in a small town in Southern New Jersey, where the houses were very large and the community was very nice. The development I lived in had many other children my age which made it a very enjoyable childhood. Living in this nice community gave us access to the community pool that my friends and I enjoyed very much though hot summer days. A very short commute down the road you’d find many shopping plazas with great restaurants such as Texas Roadhouse, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Applebee’s. Living in South Jersey was a highlight in my life I will never forget.…
Living in Olathe, Kansas, a large suburb outside of Kansas City, did not prepare me for the move to Salina. The benefits of living in a larger suburb are that the high schools can really help you prepare for the transition to college level classes. I did not take the help the school gave out into consideration when going to classes. My senior year was when everything clicked into place and I knew what I want to do with my life, and that was flying.…
My position on this is small town. The reason i say it's better to grow up in a small town is because you're more known for what u do,the reason for that is because less people for you to know and the people u do get to know won't just forget about you in 2 days they will know u forever if ur in there small town. And i think public schools actually need a class that teaches kids simple stuff u need to know in life like for instance i knew a kid who didnt know how to change a tire and tighten the nuts on the tire. That's why i believe a class like they should be taught bc those skills are more important in life than any others.…
Being able to look at a beautiful sky day and night. Small towns are way better and safer than big towns. Small towns are quieter, have less crime and have clearer and prettier skies. Small towns are better than big cities because there is less noise.…
It’s a town filled with farms and the whole county goes to the same high school. Most people that lived close together know each other, yet the friendliness that is given and received is just a social norm that people felt like they had to follow. In reality, most were bitter and gossiped about how Steve did this, or Rachel didn’t show up to church. Simple, stupid things that in the long run mean nothing, however without these high school-like characteristics, they would find themselves lacking any real content to discus. Then there’s me, at four years of age I will start my first day at Pinebrook elementary school, a school surrounded by rows of corn as far as my eyes can see coming over the bridge towards the…
Courses that a student is interested in are not always offered in small towns. The cost of education in smaller towns is a lot less than compared to those of a much bigger cities. Deciding to go to school in a small town students get a different feel for living, small towns are more closely knit, everyone knows each other and everyone is friendly to newcomers. Education in bigger cities is a more wide selection of courses and majors to decide on from, a student can get into so many completely different courses. Putting everything in to consideration regarding both small country towns and big cities, it is hard to say which one would really select.…
