Most of the people in the world live in a collectivist society. In a collectivist society, you depend on your group and in an individualistic society every person is independent. Although there are many reasons why one may be better than the other, individualism is definitely superior to collectivism.
One reason individualism is better than collectivism is people have more freedom than someone of the same age and gender in a group.
