Immigrants harm native-born American lives by effecting American jobs. Illegal immigrants also receive government support without being a citizen. This allows massive quantities of drugs to become available to Americans. There are constant drug wars continuing in the United States because of the smuggling. In addition, smuggling causes the endangerment of American citizens due to interference in the wars. According to an article on The Civitas Institute website, “Federal investigators believe that as much as 2.2 million kilograms of cocaine and 11.6 kilograms of marijuana were smuggled into the United States via the Mexican border in 2005.” (Taylor). This further demonstrates the amount of smuggling occurring every day. The securing of the border is crucial to stop illegal immigrants who transport contraband from crossing into America. Smuggling of contraband should have the repercussion of deportation to the perpetrators homeland. Many illegal immigrants who arrive in America begin looking for work. Foreigners work for lower wages then Americans. The work illegal immigrants do is often undocumented. This causes employers to hire immigrants more regularly then American citizens.
