Why Is Ida Presti Important

For my Applied Music 2206 research project I choose to research one of the many great guitarist of the 19th century Ida Presti. She had a very interesting life full of lots of fun and most important to her music. Ida Presti, originally named Yvette Montagnon was born May 31st 1924 in Suresnes, France. Her father Claude Montagnon was French and her mother Olga- Gracia Lo was Sicilian. Ida studied harmony and music theory with guitarist Mario Maccaferri. Ida was a remarkable performer who entertained thousands around the world with her mesmerizing guitar playing. Ida experienced two tragedies, she lost her little brother Joseph when she was 4 years old then she was 9 she lost her father. Her father never played the guitar but she said that her father was the first one who ever introduced her to music. …show more content…
She was praised by her teachers and she recorded for the HMV record label in 1937. Ida was classified as the main source of income for her household because her family lived in an area where poverty was high. For 2 years she played at the Pasdeloup Concerts and the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire. At age 14 she starred in the 1938 film La Petite Chose as a guitar player. She also played Niccolò Paganini’s guitar during a celebration of his life. On September 16th 1948 Ida performed for the French premiere Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuez and it was broadcasted on the
