Human Population Carrying Capacity Essay

Improved Essays
I believe that the human population is on it’s way to reaching carrying capacity and we as a nation will continue to grow exponentially and we will exhaust our resources inevitably. There is no one who knows exactly when the human population will exceed all resources but scientists are able to predict what the limit is and what would happen. As of 2011 scientists estimated that the maximum carrying capacity for the world would be around 9-10 billion people. The problem with so many humans inhabiting the earth means a limited amount of freshwater available and a very limited amount of food available (Wolchover). As many as 200 years ago
Density dependent survival factors would include using sustainable energy, as in solar power or wind power.

Since the late 1700s a man named Thomas Robert Malthus explained carrying capacity and he believed that the world’s population would advance far beyond the food resources. Living in a country where starvation is an issue in many countries is is fair to suggest that in these areas their carrying capacity has been reached. If there were enough food no one should go hungry (Cohen). In 1992 the population grew approximately 93 million people, which was the size of Mexico at the time. There’s no mistake that the earth’s population continues to grow and the united states and other advanced countries do not make up for the most increase, lower income nations are contributing more to the population (Daily). Figure 1 shows that the highest amount of contribution to the world’s population is due to lower-income nations, such as Africa, which is the country with the most births (Haub). The higher birth rate

can be the cause of a number things. This could include not having contraception available and having large families to help out.
In conclusion, I think that the carrying capacity of the world has no quite met the limit just yet but is on its way. We will reach the limit and something will have to be done or the planet will not continue to sustain the way we are living

It will come about in one of two ways: Either we decide to manage our on numbers, to avoid a collision of every line on collision of every line on civilization’s graph – or nature will do it for us, in the form of famines, thirst, climate chaos, crashing ecosystems,…

Worldwide population growth is an issue that grows more and more urgent with each passing day. Our earth is nearing its capacity, and its important that we address this issue to avoid a worldwide state of emergency. Garrett Hardin and Clark Wolf both discuss this issue in detail, and offer their own solutions on how we should solve this problem. However, while Hardin presents a valid view of our world population problems, Wolf provides a more well rounded argument, and goes further to provide reasonable, effective solutions that target the true source of the issue. Garrett Hardin, in his essay “Lifeboat Ethics,” describes the problem of current world population growth, and how we are making this already very serious issue even worse by living…

Since right now we don’t have a worry about food or resource, I feel that if we continue to grow than we would have to limit the agricultural production and have family get so much food each month. We would have to cut the restaurants out and fast food out to help save some of the resources. The water would have to be limited as well since if we continue to grow, we would need more water. Most of the water has salt in it so we won’t be able to drink that water since we can die from the salt. We would have to limit the drinking water, shower, tub, and laundry supply.…

With the rapid increase in population, there is no way a human race could sustain life for long. It would be a different story if animals were reproducing at the same rate as humans, but they are not. This may have worked hundreds of years ago, but the world we live in today is not the same one our parents and grandparents grew up in. Requirements for survival have changed drastically over the last few…

Since the dawn of human existence we have tried constantly to do one thing, understand and utilize nature for our natural competitive edge. WE have found ways to control many aspects of our existence over the years from the plants and animals we domesticate, to the mighty rivers we have dammed up for irrigation and power. Today we are in a state of constant withdraw from our world. The global population has grown to such a significant number that the amount of resources needed to support this human population far exceeds the amount of resources the globe can produce.…

America's growing population is becoming a serious dilemma, with the problems of not enough fossil fuels, food and space to keep everyone healthy and happy. Currently in America we have over 325,187,419 people and if we don't do something quick then we will not have enough room for people to live or enough food to eat (“U.S. Population (LIVE”). Many more problems will arise due to population growth, for instance many people will become homeless due to everything getting more efficient, especially with scientists creating more machines to do tasks for us. Most won't have enough jobs and many people will not be able to care for their families. Resources will run out sooner than later, not just in the United States but everywhere and what will we do.…

The prominent philosopher Thomas Malthus addressed sustaining our resources in his essay, An Essay on the Principle of Population. Malthus proposed that human population would grow faster than our resources; our resources are limited and, therefore, we cannot sustain the population. Malthus himself writes, “to meet the needs and aspirations of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (552). Basically, Malthus is warning us that we need to find a way to control overpopulation, so we have enough resources for the future…

Rachael Meinders Population Problem Essay September 30, 2014 Period 6 Overpopulation is a highly debated and controversial idea that states that the carrying capacity of the earth determines the number of people the world can sustain. The carrying capacity is a figured number or limit the world can hold and function with at any time. Earthly features such as the amount of resources, health of the environment, modern technology, basic needs, etc of the people and the land determine the carrying capacity, which always changes. The idea of overpopulation states that when the population exceeds the carrying capacity, the society fails and dies off. There is no definite evidence proving or disproving that carrying capacity exists, but there is a great deal of debate and speculation about all aspects of the idea of overpopulation.…
