Human Population Carrying Capacity Essay

Improved Essays
I believe that the human population is on it’s way to reaching carrying capacity and we as a nation will continue to grow exponentially and we will exhaust our resources inevitably. There is no one who knows exactly when the human population will exceed all resources but scientists are able to predict what the limit is and what would happen. As of 2011 scientists estimated that the maximum carrying capacity for the world would be around 9-10 billion people. The problem with so many humans inhabiting the earth means a limited amount of freshwater available and a very limited amount of food available (Wolchover). As many as 200 years ago
Density dependent survival factors would include using sustainable energy, as in solar power or wind power.

Since the late 1700s a man named Thomas Robert Malthus explained carrying capacity and he believed that the world’s population would advance far beyond the food resources. Living in a country where starvation is an issue in many countries is is fair to suggest that in these areas their carrying capacity has been reached. If there were enough food no one should go hungry (Cohen). In 1992 the population grew approximately 93 million people, which was the size of Mexico at the time. There’s no mistake that the earth’s population continues to grow and the united states and other advanced countries do not make up for the most increase, lower income nations are contributing more to the population (Daily). Figure 1 shows that the highest amount of contribution to the world’s population is due to lower-income nations, such as Africa, which is the country with the most births (Haub). The higher birth rate

can be the cause of a number things. This could include not having contraception available and having large families to help out.
In conclusion, I think that the carrying capacity of the world has no quite met the limit just yet but is on its way. We will reach the limit and something will have to be done or the planet will not continue to sustain the way we are living

Worldwide population growth is an issue that grows more and more urgent with each passing day. Our earth is nearing its capacity, and its important that we address this issue to avoid a worldwide state of emergency. Garrett Hardin and Clark Wolf both discuss this issue in detail, and offer their own solutions on how we should solve this problem. However, while Hardin presents a valid view of our world population problems, Wolf provides a more well rounded argument, and goes further to provide reasonable, effective solutions that target the true source of the issue. Garrett Hardin, in his essay “Lifeboat Ethics,” describes the problem of current world population growth, and how we are making this already very serious issue even worse by living…

The current world population is a constraining 7 billion people, and shows no signs of slowing down. Amidst the growing population rises an issue, which can no longer be over looked. The population is not scattered uniformly across the globe, there are different concentrations of population in different places. However, some are comparable in size. Just like human characteristics, there are characteristics for all countries that can be scrutinized.…

In 1798, Reverend Thomas Malthus said that the earth’s population would grow more quickly then we are able to produce resources, such as food (Dimick). He hypothesized that the population would grow geometrically, meaning it would double, while the amount of resources we have would only grow arithmetically (Dimick). What are the leading contributors to overpopulation and lack of resources, and what can country’s do specifically to fix the gap? Overpopulation is defined as “an undesirable condition where the number of existing human population exceeds the carrying capacity of the earth (Kukreja)”. Since the Bubonic Plague in the 1400’s Earths population has been in a constant rise, and even though there has been a number or wars and other hazards…

In this essay, Garrett Hardin exposes and problem the world is enduring without many humans even realizing. He first mentions the relationship between the world population and resources and concluded that the population must be brought under control. In his essay he formulated solutions to the problem at hand. Hardin rejected the hope that improved food production technology will allow an infinite increase in population. The world cannot provide progression in both the population and quality of life.…

The issue some say is not the number of occupants but the amount each occupant consumes. If people could learn to only use what is necessary to sustain themselves then the number of occupants would not be a factor in determining if one area really is over populated. Currently thanks in part to the Green Revolution global food production is multiplying much faster than population growth. Our ability to manufacture and transport foods has made it possible for the carrying capacity to greatly increase. Although it has helped tremendously relying on technology could be detrimental, if it fails the world may starve (Shelly…

Humans must face the inevitable fact that one day the Earth will either become overpopulated or fail to produce the quantity of resources required to sustain the population. On the Earth, us humans remain very limited to what we can accomplish and create by the resources available within the planet's geosphere. Already, the price of precious metals such as gold, platinum, and uranium skyrocket because of their very low supply and very high demand. In the distant future, many of the resources we are currently accustomed to being so abundant will become just as scarce. Even through endeavors to conserve the use of Earth's resources, we are still limited by increasing scarcity and inevitably depletion.…

Since the dawn of human existence we have tried constantly to do one thing, understand and utilize nature for our natural competitive edge. WE have found ways to control many aspects of our existence over the years from the plants and animals we domesticate, to the mighty rivers we have dammed up for irrigation and power. At first humans worked in harmony with the natural cycles of the land, they used what they could and then moved on letting time replenish the lost resources. Today we are in a state of constant withdraw from our world. The global population has grown to such a significant number that the amount of resources needed to support this human population far exceeds the amount of resources the globe can produce.…

The human-caused factors substantially outweigh the natural occurrences in the environment. These factors are defined by the human population, social wants and needs, and the energy used (Tait, Hanna). The innovative technologies used today are greatly depended on because they are what keeps the developing society and economy functioning. It is inevitable that the finite resources and short-term demands of the human population will overwhelm the planet to replenish and provide in order to satisfy the population. As Paul Gilding, a writer, activist, and adviser on sustainability states, “we 've created a little too much stuff -- so much that our economy is now bigger than its host, our planet”.…
