The Homework Struggle

Homework is an old, outdated idea that students have been stuck with, and it needs to be reformed. For years, the school system has been set up to give all students homework even if unnecessary. Plenty of children who are given homework cheat off their friends, have their parents do it, or get the answers online, which could be plagiarism. If a student does not know the material because the teacher did not go over it well enough, then the student should not be punished. The school system often neglects to realize that students are more than just that; for example, a student could have a part time job after school, have to take care of loved ones, or volunteer to help others. If students play sports then they might be on a bus at midnight doing homework after playing basketball or football games. If a student wanted work at home they would be home schooled. If a student works a job and has hours of homework to do then they will not get done with the homework, have to do it while working, or will not get enough sleep at night. If schools could implement a period where students could work on homework then they could get help and they could better understand the material if they need help, and they could ask others for help rather than being alone.
Homework was intended to help and can help some students. Homework can help students practice the work they did in class. If students do not comprehend the material or are not taught well enough then homework can help them understand and learn how to do the work. Homework can help students to be closer with their parents if their parents help them with their homework. Homework, while not being completely necessary, does have some benefits for some students, but homework could make so many students lives harder and more

Most students live on a farm or out in the country therefore they have chores to do like feed the animals, and they should not get extra work for helping their family. For example, most students have a dog or a cat that they need to feed, but some of the more advance farms have cows and goats that the students would have to take care of, and that would take longer to do the students ' chores therefore the students would not have time to do their homework. Some students, at home, have to do dishes or laundry, and they should not get homework because they have other important things to do. For example, most houses have a dishwasher, but that does not fill itself, so students need to do the dishes, and that takes time. Making sure teachers don’t give busy work is important to the educational system because students will be more motivated to finish classwork and they will look forward to learning. This puts students and teachers in an easier state of mind, and helps everyone excel during school. Another way to get rid of homework is looking at the practicality of homework. If school days were longer students could practice during class and not have to do it at home. When students graduate high school, and even going into college they are assigned mass amounts of work to complete.…
