Why Is Homework Wrong

Improved Essays
Homework- Wrong or right? In today's world, Homework is the basis of just about every school. Its meant to help us. Its meant to teach us to do what we're supposed to. Teachers think that without homework how will we learn, but on the other hand, the students think totally opposite of that. It's time consuming, difficult and a struggle to get everything done from every class all in one night. Teachers are assigning middle school students college level homework assignments. I personally think that homework should not be mandatory. It should be a choice based off if the students needs it or not. In my opinion, if students are not forced to do it then they will. For decades, scholars have debated the value of giving students additional homework to reinforce the lessons taught in school. According to numerous university studies, additional work has consistently proven to be a crucial link to academic success. Therefore, all students should have homework each night to support the skills taught during the school day, improve academic discipline, and help districts improve standardized test scores. As anyone who has ever mastered a skill knows, the learning process requires repeated practice in order to retain, and effectively utilize new information. In a 2010 investigation conducted by Dr. Frank McFrankerson of Yale University, it was found that students who spent more than 20 hours a week completing homework enjoyed a 25% greater GPA than those who did not make the same time investment (5).…

There are various effective arguments I would make to support students having homework by their teachers. The first argument I would make is that homework helps students to better retain the lessons they’ve learned during the school day. Students need a lot of exercises to do to retain what they learn everyday in school. Since class time isn’t enough to provide a lot of exercises on one subject, homework is the best way to exercise what’s been learned in class. If no homework is given to students on a subject that’s been discussed in class, it’s more likely for them to forget the subject the next day.…
