Did you know, homework was viewed as a sin during the Progressive Era because it deprived children from their play time? Today, society is expressing similar concerns. Homework seldom improves academic performance. Sure, through homework one can get high scores in a standardized test, but in my own point of view using standardized tests as indicators of how well a student understands a lesson can be inaccurate. Students tend to memorize and not understand the lesson in means of studying for a test.…

In the past, I have thought that grades were not essential since there would always be a school there for you next year. I did study, but never tried for the highest possible grade that I could have earned. My study habits were not the best they could have been. There are various effective arguments I would make to support students having homework by their teachers. The first argument I would make is that homework helps students to better retain the lessons they’ve learned during the school day. Students need a lot of exercises to do to retain what they learn everyday in school. Since class time isn’t enough to provide a lot of exercises on one subject, homework is the best way to exercise what’s been learned in class. If no homework is given to students on a subject that’s been discussed in class, it’s more likely for them to forget the subject the next day.…

There are so many reasons people are pro homework. People say “it helps them become smarter or helps them on test,” But there is a lack of evidence where it actually supports their claims, that it helps students at all especially at such a young age. with Alfie Khon “The positive effects of homework are largely mythical.”(Khon).
