For me, puzzles and cards have always been my toys; I grew up playing with them instead of Barbie. More than that, they have been our family activity. I was so excited, since it was a new challenge for me. When I was eleven years old, I had learned to solve a regular Rubik’s Cube with my dad’s help; it took me a little time to memorize and practice the steps, but it was not too difficult overall. I decided to solve the Megaminx by myself. I remembered that the key to solving a Rubik’s Cube is to solve it by layers, so I started to solve the Megaminx in the same way. However, I was not successful, and got stuck halfway through. I tried to figure it out in my own way, and started over again and again, but I still could not get any further than halfway. Finally, I decided to take a peek at the instructions in the box; but the chocolate-bar-sized instructions had no words, just arrows. It made no sense to me. I was so frustrated, but rather than giving up, I was more determined to find a solution. I figured out the instructions and worked on the Megaminx. After three weeks’ worth of attempts, I finally solved it on my own.
Solving the Megaminx, and puzzles in general, is exhilarating. Even though I sacrificed time that would have been available for other entertainment, I am proud of my accomplishment. I am rewarded with happiness and satisfaction every time I solve a puzzle, and I hope I continue to feel this way the rest of my life. I may encounter difficult problems in the future, but I will always try to solve them. I will keep on solving my
