Hamlet is told of the seeing of his father’s ghost, he must at once see it for himself to truly believe the rumor. In shock not believing his own eyes, young hamlet indeed sees the ghost of his father and speaks with him. The now dead king, tells Hamlet of how he was poisoned by Claudius. In Reta A. Terry’s article, “Vows to the Blackest Devil” Terry states, “He is a man of honor, a noble man, and now that the vow is spoken he has no choice but to carry it through” (Terry 1074). This supports the idea that Hamlet is indeed and man of honor and has no other option than doing what the ghost has told him to do. At this point after the ghost has spoken, Hamlet takes everything to heart and starts planning revenge against his uncle Claudius, whom is now king and married to his mother. Hamlet now doesn’t care about anything or anyone in his way of avenging his father’s killer. Hamlet is a moral man and shows this by doing what is right to honor his dead father. With a strong mind and spirit, even after the ghost speaks to Hamlet, he still refrains from acting with anger and outrage towards

In the article “Hamlet’s Heroism,” Bert Honback points out that “Hamlet’s heroism is in his careful thoughtfulness, in his valiant determination to live by principle rather than by passion” (3). Basically, he indicates that Hamlet is a hero; he has enough ability to become the King of Denmark. At the same time, this can be realized from Fortinbra’s words, “For he was likely, had he been put on, /To have proved to be most royal” (1190). However, it is a pity that Hamlet sometimes cannot control his impulse. And because he acts impulsively, he kills Polonius accidentally.…

From this passage we can see that they clearly had a great deal of respect towards the late old Hamlet. Even the word choices by Shakespeare in this passage show that he wanted this idea to be reinforced in the reader’s mind. When Horatio says “Dared to combat” there is extra emphasis on the word “dared”. He could have just as easily said that old Hamlet was challenged to combat or confronted with battle, but he decided upon “dared to combat” because it paints an image of a brave king going into battle only because he needs to defend his kingdom. It helps to preserve the morality of the king even though he has killed somebody.…

The ghost tells him to avenge his death by stating, “Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder” (1.4.29). This demonstrates that the ghost wants Hamlet to kill the one who has taken his life. The ghost not only tells Hamlet that he was murdered but gives information of who the killer is by saying, “ The serpent that did sting thy father’s life now wears his crown” (1.4. 44-45). Hamlet was quick to understand that he was entitled to avenge his father’s death. This shows that many are frequently influenced by the voice in our head that tells us to do something even when we know we should not. Although Hamlet was convinced he must retaliate against his father’s death, he insisted on gaining proof before killing Claudius due to Horatio’s belief that the ghost was an evil spirit, “Which might deprive your sovereignty of reason / and draw you into madness? Think of it” (1.4.76-77). Hamlet did not want the people of Denmark to believe that he was so evil to be plotting to kill his stepdad with his proof coming from a dead soul.…
