Why Is Gun Control Law Ineffective

Decent Essays
Another reason why gun control law is ineffective is because it does not prevent crime. Gun control law is set for the purpose of making strict laws that make gun owners to be afraid of the harsh punishments in order to lower the rate of crime, but after the gun control law is set, the crime rate do not go down, plus, people that wants to become a crime does not mind about breaking the laws. For example, On October 1, 2017, there is a mass shooting in Las Vegas, it is remarkable because it shows how people planning on a mass murder does not care about any of those laws, this shows that gun control law is not going to be effective because people that wants to be a murder or crime still finds a way to do it, this is like Donald Trump’s idea of

One of the worst cases of failed reporting of mental health checks was the Virginia Tech Massacre, in April 2007, where a Virginia Tech student named Seung-Hui Cho shot and killed 32 people and injured 17 others, then killed himself on the college campus in Blacksburg, Virginia (“Mental Health Reporting”). Cho bought a gun despite going through two background checks through licensed gun dealers and having a mental health history in the records that should have prevented him from receiving a gun. Although Virginia had some mental health check laws at the time, certain cases were masked from background checks. But, this is not the only instance, in fact, there have been 102 mass shootings in 2017 alone, from January 1st-April 18 (“Mission.”).…

This proves these specific laws are not serviceable. Also, there are more than three hundred million civilian-owned firearms in America (Oliver). That is almost one gun for every citizen in this country. If gun sales were banned, there would be three hundred million loose guns up for grabs in America (Oliver). Gun control laws will not solve any circumstance for the country of…

The definition of a criminal tells us that criminals are a person who has committed a crime and broken the law in some way, shape, or form. Common sense tells us that criminals do not follow laws, so gun control laws will just add to the list of laws for them to break. One example of a law that was broken is the Gun Control Act of 1968. The Gun Control act of 1968 did not prevent any crime from happening and in “states enacting more-relaxed right-to-carry laws, murders fell an average of 8 percent, rapes an average of 5 percent, and aggravated assaults an average of 7 percent between 1977 and 1992” (Lott 1).…

“The result of these studies appear to indicate that gun control laws have no effect on criminals.” (Alters 1) As a result, even though there are gun laws in place, criminals find a way around it. Gun Control does not prevent Gun Violence Gun control is a very controversial topic especially in today's society; whether gun control is good or bad is a very talked about subject especially when it comes to the United States. This is a very touchy subject because guns are a part of a lot of people's daily lives. People that are anti gun control believe that no one should be able to put any restrictions on guns. They believe that people should be able to buy a firearm just like a pair of boots or a tool. They also believe that if you take firearms away from the law abiding citizens that just leaves firearms in the hands of people that don't abide by the law and leaves them defenseless.…

To begin gun control infringes upon self defence. According to the National Rifle Association (NRA) guns are used 2.5 million times a year for self defence. Gun control will only make self defence harder and killing easier. Also 48% of convicted felons admitted they avoided crimes because they knew the victim had a gun. Therefore gun control will cause more crime instead of less.…

If guns are banned and the law-abiding citizens are obeying the law, then when the criminals attempt to commit a crime, it is going to be much easier for them to get away with it because the average citizen is not going to have any way to protect his or herself. According to NRA’s mantra, “[the] only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun” (Hughes). So, not only does banning guns make it easier for a criminal to commit a crime, but it also disseminates any chance of stopping the criminal from committing the…

With cases like this, people start to think: First of all, why does a 14-year old have a shotgun? Second, what was going on in their head to cause them to shoot the gun? Third, is it even legal for them to have a shotgun?…

    Argument Against Gun Ban

Though this is a valid point that could arise, it does not explain why the areas with a gun ban had increased crime that was so drastic as opposed to the rest of the U.S. whose crime rate decreased. These statistics show that gun bans are quite possibly one of the worst ways to protect citizens, they could, in actuality, put people in more danger because they prevent them from using a gun as an effective mode of self defense. Some gun control supporters misconstrue the problem as just being with the gun itself when the real problem is the person who is behind it. When someone ,who is responsible and has been trained with handguns, is put behind a gun it becomes a tool for self defense and not a weapon as it does with violent criminals. What a gun ban really is, is something limits the self defense of our nation's citizens and keeps them unprotected against those who wish them harm.…

Make it harder for Americans to purchase handguns, but can carry them as concealed weapons for protection. In the last year, ten thousand seven hundred and twenty eight people died from getting shot by a handgun(Gun-Control Dishonesty). Gun Control is Not the Solution Increased Gun Control in the United States is absurd, useless, and unnecessary. In order to increase safety all throughout the United States time and effort must not be spent towards limiting gun owners of their rights. The tragic rash of school, religious, and workplace shootings has turned up the heat on the public conversation about guns. In nearly all of these cases gun laws would not have stopped the shooters from obtaining a firearm.…
