Moorhouse concludes this in his study on the relation between gun control and crime rates, “The findings of this study that gun control is ineffective in reducing crime rates are consistent with the vast majority of other studies that use state data” (Moorhouse). This does not mean gun control is ineffective though. The gun control laws in America are proven to be ineffective in reducing crime rates, but not necessarily because they are ineffective. He says the current laws are not working, but new stricter ones could potentially solve the gun violence. There is no way to know for certain though. America is unlike any other country in the world when it comes to guns. The number of guns in the US is extraordinary as Sager shows in this statistic, “there are 88 guns for every 100 people living in the United States (not even counting the illegal weapons which our government couldn’t account for)” (Sager). Managing this many guns would be a monumental task. There is no guarantee either that the government could properly account for all of these guns even if they tried to tackle this beast. To conclude, gun control in the USA is currently ineffective in reducing crime, but strict, enforced, gun control may be able to reduce crime, if properly …show more content…
A study by Kwon comes to a conclusion on the effect of effective gun control, “Our research indicates that states with most comprehensive gun control legislation experienced on average one to almost six fewer gun-related fatalities than those states with the most lax laws” (Kwon). His research shows that fewer people are being killed by guns with states that have effective gun control laws. These deaths are not necessarily related to crime related gun deaths. The other types of deaths that are even more common than crime related gun deaths are suicides by a gun. As a study in 2013 shows, about 58 people per day commit suicide via gun out of a total of 92 gun related deaths per day (Lopez). People would often overlook this fact because it seems that if someone wishes to commit suicide, there is no way to stop them from doing so. People with the sudden urge to commit suicide do not always end up killing themselves. The vast majority of people who survive suicide attempts, do not end up dying from suicides (Lopez). Once people attempt to take their own life and fail, most will end up living a normal life after that. Some people think all of the tools for suicide are all the same to a person taking their life, “But not all objects are created equal” (LaFollette). Guns do not provide that second chance for these unlucky souls. Guns are tools to
