In mass shootings throughout the early 2000’s it is very easy to blame the mass shootings on the availability of guns. Since most of these crimes were committed with guns purchased through gun shows, or unregistered gun salesman, gun control would not have stopped them from doing what they did (Illness 246). Also, studies have shown that between 1980 and 2009 when assault weapons were supposedly banned, bans did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Procon). When the government passes a law to control guns, all they are doing is making it illegal. This won’t stop people who are already planning on killing people, which is by the way illegal. Instead of passing laws that restrict our ownership of firearms, we should be more focused on trying to stop felons and mentally ill Americans from buying
