George Washington is a very prominent and significant person throughout the United States, despite the fact that he lived over two hundred years ago. He is most well known for being the first president of the United States, but there is much more than just his presidency that makes him a significant person in history. George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia. His father was Augustine Washington. Augustine was a prosperous tobacco farmer in Virginia. Therefore, his army was not slowed down by his sickness at that time. If George Washington had gotten smallpox he would have had a greater chance of dying due to the lack of supplies, knowledge, nurses, and space to care for him. He would have never had a chance to become president or improve the country as much as he had. In 1750 George Washington married his only wife Martha Dandridge who already had two daughters from a previous marriage. They never did have kids instead he cared for her as they were his. She had stuck by him through everything even visiting him during the winter at his winter camps while fighting was minimal no matter how far the journey. In 1752 his brother died. Before dying Lawrence Washington, who founded the Ohio Company, was able to set George Washington up for success by getting him a job surveying land. Since the Ohio Company’s purpose was to survey land Lawrence Washington had many jobs for him. He had originally wanted to join the army but his mother would not allow it so this was the next best thing for George Washington. Lawrence Washington’s in-laws were the wealthy Fairfax family. They needed land surveyed so Lawrence Washington suggested George Washington. After several years of surveying George had accumulated the survival skills that he would later need in the army and had gained almost as much land as his brother had already inherited from their
