Why Is Genealogy Research Important

Honesty and integrity when dealing with others should be the top priority of any person. The field of genealogy research is founded on individuals who have these same attributes. Clients looking for help from an experienced genealogist are not only looking for someone that knows how to get results, but also for a person who is ethical in their dealings. Showing a commitment to ethics can be accomplished in many ways. All dealing and interactions with clients will be done with complete honesty. No work would be accepted that create expectations that require using unethical practices to accomplish. If the client wishes to keep sensitive information excluded from reports their wishes will be considered. When dealing with others doing genealogy research all interactions will be honest and done with complete integrity. If these individuals are doing unethical practices it would be wise to discontinue interaction with them. They should be made aware of personal feelings about the approaches they are taking which are causing problems. If they have a certification by one of the genealogical organizations, consideration about reporting their conduct could be considered. All client fees and services will be identified before any work is started. Rates will be typical for work being completed by other research genealogist. No work will be accepted that cannot be completed within the agreed due dates. Contracts which require extended research time periods will have agreed on status updates. If after beginning research it appears that the established goal is no longer possible the client will be contacted to schedule an update meeting.
