Why Is Friar Lawrence Important In Romeo And Juliet

The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet was one of many plays written by William Shakespeare. The many characters of the play all have functions. The characters with the most important functions are Friar Lawrence, Prince Escalus, and Juliet's Nurse. These people have major functions in the entire plot of Romeo and Juliet. The first important character is Friar Lawrence. He is the Friar or priest of the town of Verona. His functions are helping Romeo, helping Juliet, and marrying them.He helps Romeo by saying this: “ Hence from Verona art thou banished. Be patient, for the world is broad and wide.” (Friar Lawrence,Romeo and Juliet). Romeo killed Tybalt and goes straight to Friar Lawrence’s cell, and he tells Romeo that he will be fine in Mantua. He also helps Juliet by saying this: “I hear thou must, and nothing may prorogue it, on Thursday next be married to this county.” (Friar Lawrence,Romeo and Juliet) when she goes to him about marrying Paris. He tells her to marry him even though she is already married. Last, but not least, he marries Romeo and Juliet. “Till Holy Church incorporate two in one.” (Friar Lawrence,Romeo and Juliet) This is part of his function because he marries Romeo and Juliet forevermore. The Prince is like the mayor of the town of Verona. The Prince is a key character in the plot for many reasons. The first reason is to make peace in the town. “Cankered with peace, to part your cankered hate.” (Prince Escalus, Romeo and Juliet). The two families, The Capulets and the Montagues, fight in the streets and he tries to stop it. The second reason he is crucial in the plot is he exiles Romeo from Verona for killing Tybalt. “Immediately we do exile him hence.”( Prince Escalus,Romeo and Juliet). this is what the Price sees the dead bodies of Tybalt and Mercutio and finds out that Romeo did it. Prince Escalus is a Key character in the plot of Romeo and
