Why Is Dionyso So Important To Greek?

The first object that I chose is the “Attic Red-Figure Column Krater” which was found in Athens, Greece. This Greek artifact was made in the Classical Period around 480 BCE. This object is roughly a foot tall and 3/4ths of a foot wide. The object itself is a Greek vase that widens as it nears the top. It has two handles on either side placed at the top of the vase where the bottom ends of the handles stop just before the vase bows out. The vase itself is black, but the etching and design work is brown/red with a few black details painted over it. According to DOMA, this Greek vase depicts the Greek god Dionysos, the god of wine and fertility, in the center of the piece drinking from a rhyton. On either side of Dionysos are two nude figures who each have pointed ears and a tail. DOMA states that these creatures are called “sileni” who are Dionysos’ drunken followers. DOMA also states that this vase was used for carrying wine. Which makes sense why Dionysos would be depicted on it. …show more content…
Dionysos is caring the rhyton in his left hand while he is holding something else in his right hand. I can’t make out what it is. Surrounding the figures a border made with triangle patterns and the sides and line patters on the top. At the bottom of the vase, the pattern is made up of triangles. Above the main picture and below the top pattern, this pattern is made up of swirls with dots and a triangle pattern. Although this triangle pattern is more curved at the base instead of an actual triangle

Thus, while the physique of Torso of Dionysos or Apollo is blatantly one of a youth man, one striking aspect is that of the shoulders, which appears more feminine than masculine. This feminine quality is a result of the slenderness of the curve of the shoulder, especially around the bicep. Yet, instead of this feminine feature detracting from the work, it instead humanizes the god by softening their visual representation. Moreover, the physical strength of the figure’s body could be taken as an embodiment of spiritual…

This two-handled jar displayed in the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) in Boston is a very typical Geometric Greek amphora. According to the information of the artwork on the Museum website, this ceramic vessel painted by the Birdseed Painter was made around ca. 735-720 BCE, which is in the late Geometric period, and it was found in Athens, Greece. While there is no particular subject to it, this vessel is covered by geometric patterns in most of the area, and there are two bands of repetitive animal figures painted among them. The painter used the black-figure technique to paint the jar, which was typical at the time.…

Greek Attic Vase Painters of the fifth century were fascinated by the myths of Gods becoming infatuated with humans. Because of the painters interested in the Myths of God 's falling in love with humans they wished to depict scenes of the two interacting. But emotions are harder to illustrate than actions. For example, on page 19 figure 8, Hercules riding in a chariot driven by Nike and drawn by centaurs is easier to depict because it is an illustration of an action. The problems that faced these artists was trying to depict affection.…

Bandolier bags were extremely popular among most Native American tribes, and each tribe expressed their culture through them in a different way. This particular Bandolier bag comes from the Delaware, or Lenape, Tribe. It is estimated that it was created around 1850 C.E., and is crafted with beads on leather hide. And as well there were hints of colors as stated by Gisela M. A. Richter and Lindsley F.
