Jay Gatsby uses, wealth, obsession, and parties to try to get Daisy's attention and repeat the past. In chapter 5, Daisy is in Gatsby's home for the first time and Gatsby shows Daisies all of his shirts and starts throwing them at her and she says, “They're such beautiful shirts," she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. "It makes me sad because I've never seen such--such beautiful shirts before” (98). This quote explains that Gatsby is showing off to Daisy and he's trying to win her over by showing her his expensive shirts.
