I believe corporal punishment is an effective way of raising behaved children only if it is doing it the right way. I my be a bad mom, but I have had the principal give my son pops a couple of times, because of his behavior. I am a single parent and there is not a man in his life and when I give him pops at house sometime it works and sometimes it don’t. I was a little worried about the first time that the principal gave my son pops and I’m think that it would be impossible to give him pops, but the couple times that he was given pops my son told him the truth about what happen and stood and got his pops cried a little and went on about his business. So I believe if corporal punishment is done right it can be a good thing in ensuring proper

I agree, in my opinion spanking your child can be an effective way to administer punishment especially if the child is caught in the act of doing something wrong; but I think that if you were to spank the child a while after he or she has already done something wrong it would not be as effective as being caught in the act. As a child, I can remember when my parents would give me a spanking for something I did wrong and most of the time if they caught me in the act and punished me right then and there it stuck better in my head. For example, when I was around 9 years old my dad taught me how to hunt for doves every season we would hunt doves and shoot them.…

Spanking should be used to express only wanting the best for the child. All children don’t respond the same to every punishment tactic. Using other forms of discipline such as time outs, having consequences, or harder jobs around the house could also be good ideas to discipline the child. Spankings could be done after trying other options but disciplining a child is very…

I believe that parents should not spank there kids when they are doing something "wrong". The thing is to drive foolishness out. You have to remember this is discipline and it is not supposed to be cruel punishment. It is for them to learn something is wrong, its not for you. I don't think you should ever, ever, discipline out of anger.…

Hello Tracy, I really like to hear you opinion about spanking, I completely agree with you that spanking is not an effective way of education, as you mention parents are there to guide children to the right path. By spanking their children parents are just showing how superior they are but violence leads to violence and maybe they do not even notice that they are giving children the wrong example of education, instead of guiding them to the right path. In my opinion I would not like my children to be adults and hit their children and partner just because that what they saw when they were…

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, corporal punishment can be defined as broadly as “punishment inflicted on a person 's body.” A more thorough description is provided by Dictionary.com, however, which uses the definition: “physical punishment, as spanking, inflicted on a child by an adult in authority.” Despite the indistinct line between corporal punishment and abuse, United States federal law allows corporal punishment in both school and home settings. In 1977, the Supreme Court ruled in Ingraham v. Wright that corporal punishment could not be considered “cruel and unusual punishment” as punishment in schools were not the same as criminal punishment (Ingraham v. Wright). It is ultimately left up to the states whether or not to…

In a test of 100 families Dr. Diana Baumrind found that children who were moderately spanked by their parents as a form of punishment had no long lasting psychological effects. 94 percent of children between ages three and four have been spanked at least once by their parents in the last year (). Doctors highly encourage the use of nonabusive spanking or no spanking at all. However, doctors have found a reduced level of misbehavior in children who have been non abusively spanked (). In society spanking is often seen as abuse, and has gotten many parents in trouble with police due to complaints from neighbors or people in public who see a parent punishing their child.…

Reduced prefrontal cortical gray matter value in young adults exposed to corporal punishment is a study done by Akemi Tomoda, Hanako Suzuki, Karen Rabi, Yi-Shin She, Ann Polcari, and Martin H. Teicher. This study was published in March 2009 and had the objective to see how harsh corporal punishment during a persons childhood changes the brain structure and specifically the amount of gray matter volume. They clearly drew guidelines on the differences between harsh corporal punishment (HCP) and corporal punishment (CP). They stated that spanking was an acceptable form of CP as long as it was done with ones hand and did not extend to areas other than the butt, arms, and legs, and did not cause any injury.…

I have grown up a child with manners, that tries and does well in school, because I have been disciplined physically at home from a young age. Many people are against physical punishment because they don’t believe it works, or it does more harm than good whereas others see the situation differently, depending on past experiences. Although it does work in order to make kids behave, the control that is gained is limited, it changes the way the way the child socializes, and it has horrid effects on the development of the kid. When corporal punishment is delivered, it is an attempt to show the child that the parent has the most power and because of that, they put the child in that same mind set. When the parent and nobody else is around, the…
