The experiment consisted of one participant in a group of actors and all were asked to match the test line to a line most similar. In revealing their answers, the participant was asked to answer last out of the group while the actors all purposely answered incorrectly. With over 12 trials of the experiment, nearly 75% of the participants conformed to answering the question incorrectly at least once. Normally when people think of conformity, the negative connotations associated with the word come to mind. For instance, teens doing drugs or drinking alcohol because friends or siblings tell them it’s okay to do so. Since talking about the topics in class, I haven’t been able to stop noticing conformity – change is behavior that is consistent with the behavior of others – and mimicry – the mimicking of actions and/or behaviors of others – everywhere I go. I knew the phenomena were common, but I wasn’t prepared for how often I would be noticing these behaviors. In todays society there is large push behind being unique and finding out who you want to be as an individual. What some don't realize is that depending on certain situations or scenarios we as humans are very good chameleons. We change our attitudes and mentality in a way we feel will have the best result for us, wether it is to feel accepted within a group of new friends or in a job interview with the hiring manager. When people do change it is not a bad necessarily a bad thing, I believe in some circumstances we should act differently for example; the way you talk to your friends vs. the way you treat your boss. The one that bothers me most is when I notice friends or family changing when in a group setting to how they normally would act…
