Why Is Command Presence Important

The importance of command presence is having your uniform clean and iron. The public will begin to judge a Deputy right away and it will be based on visual cues. Also, being well-groomed and polish boots will help increase how the public or inmates view you and your department. Command presence is also being loud when needed while at the same time being professional and keeping your authority. When telling someone what to do you need to loud and clear, and that will show confidence and most likely people will listen. I have been having trouble with being clear in my commands towards inmates but my CTO has given me advised on how to handle situations when inmates are being disrupted. I have learned on what approach to take in some situations and how to take others if the initial approach did not work. I have not had good officer safety in B2 holding, I have made a few mistakes by not looking for possible threats. I have officer safety strategies but at times I do not do them and that is where I can get hurt or others hurt. I will be aware of my environment and listen to what needs to be done so that I can be prepare if things go bad. I need to keep officer safety as a very important priority so that when high traffic in B2 occurs officer safety will come automatically. I cannot get complacent on inmates who seem that will not do anything because that is when things can go bad. I will always treat every inmate the same no matter what and be prepared to face the
