Why Is Christopher Columbus Bad

For decades, people have been celebrating Columbus Day in the memory of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in America. He introduced different continents to each other, which is why he is considered a hero to most people till this day. But was Columbus really a daredevil? Or was he really a villain? The problem lies, should Columbus be considered as a villain or a hero. But I feel that Columbus is a brutal colonizer. People need to understand that because he did things that were terrific, he still performed harsh things on people in the past. People need to see what Christopher Columbus was really like in the past than what people think as of him now in the present time. People don’t know how much destruction was caused because of him. On his first voyage Columbus found a new continent, North America. He founded Native Americans and they were very innocent people. They treated everyone admirably, but Columbus used/tricked those legitimate people. Columbus stole all their crops, animals and their land, and he used the Native Americans as slaves. Columbus used the people for growing crops and digging gold and other jobs. He erased the Native American culture; the Europeans took over North America. The author Whitney DeWitt states, “With slavery, warfare, and inhumane acts, Christopher Columbus and the men who accompanied him completely destroyed a people, a culture, and a land. These are not actions that should be heralded as heroic”. Columbus tortured, punished, and killed people who tried to get across or against his rules. In the same article by the same author states “One account tells of how they came upon a canoe and Indians and they attacked them. They thought they had killed one of the Indians and threw him into the water. Upon seeing him begin to swim, they caught him and cut his head with an axe. They later sent the rest of the Indians to Spain. He also gives a relatively descriptive account of his threatening an Indian woman”. He performed horrific activities on Native Americans. As stated in an article by the author Whitney Dewitt, “Columbus and his men could be a very cruel group of people. Under the guise of subduing the enemy, they would engage in horrific activities. At times, they would make an example of an Indian by cutting his hands off and tying them around his neck, telling him to then go and share the message. Other times they would go and massacre an entire village, unconcerned with the age of their victims”. That’s my opinion on Christopher
