Some of the dangers children face in workplaces include; chemicals in fertilizers, sexual abuse, toddlers could fall into kettles or buckets full of water, or they could fall into the fire. In an article in the Washington Post, a boy “was working on a row of sweet potatoes when a shower of liquid sprayed over from the next field. On his break he discovered pesticides had soaked his pants, damaging [his] phone’s screen.”(Alexandre Hall) If the pesticides can damage a phone imagine what they can do to a person's skin, eyes or how it can affect breathing. Children work in this pesticides for hours a day. In the same article Hall mentioned the boy, Fernando, was very itchy after working in the tobacco fields, “When you break the flowers” Fernando states “the chemicals go everywhere. If they get on you, it burns really bad… makes your skin [feel] like it’s crawling.” Other effects he was feeling were sick and uneasy. Working with tobacco can lead to nicotine poisoning. According to Dr. Ratini from WebMD, she says some symptoms are shallow breathing, vomiting or sickness and dizziness. These can last up to 24 hours, depending on how long you work with tobacco.
